Case study of BPO employability training
From the batch of 16 hearing impaired trained in April 2009, during the height of recession, Thomson Reuters hired 14 of them for their non voice processes. These hearing impaired are working with 16 hearing folks. Though their target is 100 per day, the hearing impaired employees started achieving 3 times the target. When we asked the hearing impaired, they told us that there were no surprises for them. Every bit of the training from the analytical skills training, to the self learning to the rules processing and experiential sessions have helped them to “just do it”! This is not an attempt to stereotype persons with disability (“they will always do better”). However it showcases what can happen when the right investments are done in persons with disability with innovative teaching methods.
Case study on Collaborative Training Model With Companies
The collaboration with Lake Systems is for the medical transcription training for persons with visually impairment. Medical transcription is a growing and sunrise industry which has a dearth of skills availability due to the lure of BPO non voice industry which does not require such rigorous training and level of skills and knowledge. One encounter with visually impaired was good enough for Lake to realize the untapped talent. Their collaboration is a win-win – they get trained candidates and candidates get quality training with the help of Lake and Enable India trainers. Lake systems director also feels strongly about investing in people and has created a company which has a good learning culture which will foster their long term growth. Their trainers look to Enable India for the disability specific inputs. Enable India looks to them for the much needed real world exposure and production quality training.

Case study on Training of Trainers Programme
EnAble India conducts Training of Trainer programmes in order to directly or indirectly reach out to more people with disability.These trainings provide a good platform for EnAble India and the attendees to share the best practices employed by them at their workplace. This process not only ensures in enhancing each other's knowledge but also in increasing the quality and efficiency of the training programmes.
In Feb and Apr 2011, EnAble India conducted 3 Training of Trainer programmes on Life Skills, Employment and Employability of Persons with Disability and Computer Trainers for Visually Impaired.
The Training of Trainer for Life Skills programme was the 1st of its kind by EnAble India. The training held in Hyderabad was attended by 7 NGO's with a total of 17 people representing these NGO's. On the first 3 days of the 5 day programme, there were discussions on self-assessment as trainers and how to create an environment that was conducive to VI learners and how to maintain the dignity of the learners. The next 2 days were focussed on dissemination of the life skills manual where the trainers practiced how to conduct the lessons. It was interesting to note that the trainers struggled to change their training style as most of them were used to instructional training and as life skills trainer they had to learn to facilitate the session with unexpected responses. Hence, the approach of the training was to first unlearn what they had already learnt and then approach with a fresh mind. All the trainers discussed the challenges they faced and problems that were typical to their target group. The trainers were given a certificate and CD of life skills manual at the end of the programme.
The Training of Trainer programme for Employment and Employability of Persons with Disability programme was conducted for 4 days in the month of Apr 2011. The aim of the programme was to not only train the trainers but also to help build capacity with the basic tools required to work on employment and employability of persons with disability. The topics discussed included the business case for hiring persons with disability, evaluation, profiling of the candidates, job analysis, workplace solutions, sensitization workshops, and so on. The programme was well taken by the attendees. They were impressed to learn about finding innovative workplace solutions, on dealing with employers with a positive approach among many other such learnings. One of the attendees mentioned that their confidence in dealing with persons with disability also received a boost after attending the training.
The Training of Trainer programme for Computer Trainers of the Visually Impaired was attended by various NGO's and individuals who provide computer training for visually impaired children and adults. The course provided general and specific teaching techniques for persons with vision impairment using screen readers, industry orientation, and usage of right resource aids. The attendees of the programme varied from a brand new trainer to an experienced trainer. Most of them had something to take away from the training like, understanding the capabilities of the visually impaired people to learning about tactile diagrams and so on. Some of them felt that there was more clarity in their minds on how to conduct the trainings after attending the training.
