EnAble India has been privileged to collaborate with JSS Institute for the Physically Handicapped, Mysore and provide consultancy to them on a regular basis. We have found that our collaboration has been enriching because persons with disability have benefited tremendously. We would like to give a special mention to the support from top management (especially the principal) and the efforts of HOD of DCAVI and the dedicated staff at JSS PH (all departments). We would like to showcase this partnership so that more and more like minded organizations can use this model for the benefit of persons with disability.

Our association with JSS PH, Mysore started in Jan 2005 when the lecturer from their computer science department attended the Teachers Training Course organized by Karishma Enterprises and IAVH in Mumbai. The trainer for this course was Shanti Raghavan, Founder and Managing Trustee of EnAble India.

JSS PH, Mysore went on to start a Diploma for Computer Applications for the Visually Impaired (DCAVI) in June 2005. EnAble India was invited to help in formulating the curriculum for this course and also provide inputs in infrastructure, teaching aids and material to be used to make this course a success

During 2006 and 2007, EnAble India has been invited by JSS PH on a regular basis to keep improving the curriculum for this course. JSS PH also facilitated regular interactions with the students so that we could see the results of the training (since it is not only the curriculum but the sincerity and attitude of the trainers that will really make the students learn). We could see the difference in the students within a year of them joining.

As and when required, EnAble India has provided teaching material or aids, exercises and other modules which may be of help to JSS PH trainers.

Each year, EnAble India has done placements for quite a few JSS PH student (physically disabled, hearing impaired and visually impaired) who had registered with JSS PH

EnAble India regularly recommends JSS PH, Mysore to companies as a “Campus” for recruiting persons with disability. We believe this is beneficial for the placement wing of JSS PH.

In April 2007, as part of its institution outreach program, EnAble India provided internet workshop for some DCAVI students. In June 2007, JSS PH took another step towards employability of their DCAVI students by introducing Medical transcription for the DCAVI 3rd year students with inputs from EnAble India. EnAble India was invited to work on the curriculum changes, evaluation of the trainers for Medical transcription. EnAble India has also provided inputs on the lab setup and production-like environment setup required to really make the trainees employable.

Shanti Raghavan has been invited multiple times to be a chief guest at the Annual function or Commencement day of the institute.

The next steps in our partnership are (TBD!): Working with JSS PH as a placement partner (students do not need to get evaluated at EnAble India for placements. Instead the entire process of evaluation and training for employability can be conducted at JSS PH, Working on updations to teaching methodologies for the hearing impairment and more.
