General counseling
EnAble India currently offers need-based counseling for persons with disability or their families. The counseling is generally informal and is aimed at the well-being of the individual and his/her family. Such counseling may be required, for example, to deal with the problems faced by a disabled person who has grown up in an over-protective family or has never been encouraged to be independent or has some other specific rehabilitation needs. EnAble India plans to provide a counselor on a regular basis to address the needs of various candidates and students.
Infrastructure support
Persons with disability who do not have the resources can use EnAble India's facilities for their education, research or reading needs, project work, resume preparation and more. Facilities at their disposal include computers (based on availability), internet, printer, scanner, Kurzweill software for reading (for visually impaired only) JAWS screen reader (for visually impaired only), e-text books and other e-text material.
Transcription services
EnAble India provides transcription services for persons with vision impairment pursuing education or training. Printed material is transcribed and made available to the student in
e-text/soft format. This helps in better reading, allows students to pay attention to spellings and provides random access to different parts of a book.
Special classes
Special classes are offered for candidates who are studying or working and sometimes require specialized training in programming, or in specific software used at their workplace. EnAble India arranges for volunteers who can assist the candidates
Workshop for parents of visually impaired children
EnAble India organizes workshops which provide parents with information on the capabilities of people with visual impairments. The sessions include practical training to educate parents on how they can develop the skills and talent of their children and help in their education. Parents of visually impaired/blind adults, who have experience in guiding their children, facilitate the workshop.
